Abstract:
This study’s a mi is to obtain significant information on the translation of humour within comedy TV series; in order to do so, the TV-shows Friends (1994-2004, NBC) and F is for Family (2015-present, Netflix) will be thoroughly scrutinised and examined. The purpose of this analysis is not only to identify the use of translation techniques, but also to determine whether cultural factors have been considered and therefore adapted. In addition, aspects such as: dobbing, subtitling and further technical aspects in terms of the final audio-visual product will also be explored alongside the translation of the original songs featured in the TV series. The complete examination of all the elements mentioned above will result in a reflection on the peculiarities of the translation of humour within the comedy genre.
