    Resumen:
The objective of this systematic review was to analyse, based on studies available in the recent scientific literature, the effects of mobilisation with movement (MWM) techniques using the Mulligan method on pain, mobility and functionality in patients suffering from grade I or II acute or subacute lateral ankle sprain, in comparison with the usual non-surgical conservative treatments. Materials and methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, PEDro and the Cochrane Library. Randomised controlled trials of adolescents or adults with acute or subacute lateral ankle sprain (grade I or II) treated with MWM were included. Comparators were conservative treatments. The primary endpoints were pain, mobility and function. Methodological quality was assessed using the PEDro scale. Results: The six studies analysed showed that MWM techniques led to significant improvements in pain, mobility and function in patients suffering from acute to subacute lateral ankle sprains. For example, pain decreased from 8.93 to 3.20 (p < 0.001) and dorsiflexion improved from 25.10° to 40.00° (t = 42.01) in the MWM group. In all studies, the results of the MWM group were superior to those of conventional or placebo treatments. Conclusion: The results of this systematic review show that the MWM using the Mulligan method is more effective than standard conservative treatments in reducing pain, improving mobility and restoring function in patients with grade I or II acute or subacute lateral ankle sprains. The level of evidence is high for pain and mobility, and moderate to high for function.
