    Abstract:
1 1. ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Haptic simulation has transformed dental education by allowing students to safely practice endodontic procedures in a virtual environment. Simodont® enhances training through tactile feedback, honing motor skills and anatomical understanding. However, high costs and maintenance hinder its widespread adoption. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This comparative study was conducted at the European University of Valencia to evaluate two endodontic training methods: traditional simulators and the haptic virtual reality simulator Simodont®. 40 fourth-year dental students participated, divided into two groups: one group used only artificial teeth (control group n=20) and the other group practiced with Simodont® before working with artificial teeth (experimental group n=20). The students performed premolar openings, assessed using a rubric that considered several technical aspects. In addition, students in the experimental group completed a Simodont® satisfaction questionnaire. RESULTS: Students trained with Simodont® obtained significantly higher overall scores (p < 0.05), particularly in cavity shape, pulp chamber roof removal, and internal morphology. No differences were found in pulp floor damage. The average task time was 252.7 ± 33.45 seconds, with an active instrumentation time of 41 ± 2.98 seconds. Eighty-five percent felt that Simodont® improved their understanding of 3D anatomy; 70% enjoyed the experience; 65% would recommend it; and 75% preferred a combination of virtual simulation and traditional methods. CONCLUSION: The use of the Simodont® haptic simulator significantly improved the technical skills of dental students during endodontic access cavity preparation. Students trained with Simodont® pe
